Huddersfield Town: Jan Siewert must be allowed to overhaul squad in July

Huddersfield Town’s fairy-tale story reached its final chapter on Saturday after three years that saw them achieve a meteoric rise.

The club escaped the claws of relegation to League One under former boss David Wagner in 2016 before securing a brilliant promotion to the Premier League a year later. Last season’s survival in the top tier was equally as miraculous for the club yet unfortunately for the Terriers it has been a step too far for the club in the current campaign.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace confirmed relegation for Huddersfield as results elsewhere made it mathematically impossible for them to avoid the drop. With a return to the Championship now confirmed, it is time for Dean Hoyle to back Jan Siewert in the transfer window to turn around the club’s fortunes.

This should see a plethora of players leave the John Smith’s Stadium including the likes of Steven Mounie, Laurent Depoitre and Terence Kongolo who have all failed to make an impression despite joining for notably high fees. Jonas Lossl could surely also be on his way out after being dropped by Siewert at the weekend after a poor season in goal for the Terriers.

By launching a complete overhaul of his squad, the German boss will be able to bring in players who have not been influenced directly by relegation. This, in turn, will give Huddersfield a great chance of experiencing a successful Championship campaign.

However, if the club decides to keep the players who are ultimately responsible for why they find themselves in their current position, they could put themselves at risk of another relegation which could be potentially disastrous for the Terriers.

What do you think Huddersfield fans? Should Hoyle back Siewert in the transfer window? Who do you think should leave the club in the summer? Let us know below.
