It has been a year to forget for Huddersfield Town fans, hasn’t it?
After securing a miraculous survival last season under the guidance of then-boss David Wagner, a failure to recruit players with the necessary qualities to thrive in the Premier League combined with a lack of investment in comparison with their rivals ultimately culminated in disaster for the Terriers.
Having only managed to win three games during a tumultuous 2018/19 campaign, it was of little surprise to anyone when Huddersfield became the first team to be relegated from the Premier League in March following a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Although it could be argued that the Terriers have shown glimmers of improvement since Jan Siewert took over from Wagner at the turn of the year, the German will have to launch a complete overhaul of his squad over the coming months if he has any chance of leading the club to success in the Championship next season.
With Jonas Lossl confirming earlier this week that he will be leaving Huddersfield when his contract runs out in the summer (via Sky Sports), the Yorkshire-based outfit will need to find a sufficient replacement for the Danish goalkeeper when the transfer window opens in July.
According to Football Insider, the Terriers are reportedly interested in bringing in Keiren Westwood on a free transfer and have tabled a bid for the Sheffield Wednesday ace.
A highly-experienced shot-stopper, the 34-year-old enjoyed a superb 2018/19 campaign with the Owls in which he kept a superb total of 11 clean sheets in 20 games for Steve Bruce’s side.
Although very much in the twilight of his career, Westwood could prove to be a hit at the John Smith’s Stadium if he can replicate the form that he is shown in recent years for Wednesday as well as the Republic of Ireland.
Considering the fact that Huddersfield will not have to pay a penny for him, it may be worth Siewert taking a risk on the former Sunderland star.
What do you think Terriers fans? Would Westwood be a sufficient replacement for Lossl? If not, who would you like your side to sign in the summer? Let us know below.
