It has been a tough 12 months to be a Huddersfield Town supporter, hasn’t it?
After securing a miraculous survival last season, a failure to re-invest in the summer resulted in the Terriers being severely under-prepared for the 2018/19 campaign.
With a lack of quality throughout their squad, it was of little surprise that Jan Siewert’s side became the first team to be relegated from the Premier League following a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in March.
Yet when you consider the fact that Huddersfield finished 10 points adrift of a Fulham team who utterly dreadful throughout the year, it is clear that the German needs to make some drastic changes at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Although the Yorkshire-based outfit struggled to compete defensively in the top-flight, it was their lack of attacking emphasis which ultimately drove them to disaster.
Therefore, in order to avoid another season of despair next year, they must address this issue when the transfer window opens in July.
However, before they start recruiting new players, they must first say goodbye to a forward who unfortunately never lived up to expectations after joining the club in 2017 from FC Porto.
According to the Yorkshire Post, Laurent Depoitre is reportedly expected to leave the club when his contract expires next month.
Having failed to score a goal for Huddersfield in his last 25 appearances for the club, it could be argued that Depoitre would struggle in the Championship next season despite it being a dropdown in level in comparison to the top-flight.
Despite showing glimpses of his talent during his two-year spell at the Terriers, it would be no loss if the £3.6m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) does indeed seek a future elsewhere as in the form of Karlan Grant, they already have a better forward on their hands at the John Smith’s Stadium.
What do you think Huddersfield fans? Would you be glad to see the back of the misfiring Belgian if he does leave this summer? Or do you think he deserves a shot at redemption next season? Let us know below.
