Huth’s the man to shore up Sheffield Wednesday’s frail defence

According to The Star, two-time Premier League winner Robert Huth has been listed as one of the free agents that the club should look to sign in January.

As far as players that are available and moves that The Owls can plausibly make, this seems like a brilliant move.

Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has struggled to pin down who his best defenders are this season, as he has frequently chopped and changed with personnel and formations. Subsequently, the club have only kept two clean sheets in the league this season, and have conceded the most goals in England’s top two leagues. Huth would surely be a candidate to shore up this fragile defence.

As a player, the German barely needs an introduction. A two-time Premier League winner, and a mainstay at the back in The Foxes’ title-winning season in 2016. He was imperious during that campaign, where he was not only a formidable presence on the pitch, but was a leader off it.

It is these traits that would make him such an asset to a Wednesday team that have looked bereft of leaders on the pitch so far this season. Despite their promising start to the season, the cracks have slowly started to appear, and these must be remedied as soon as possible.

This would clearly suit Huth as well, as the big German will not want his career to waste away without a club to play at. He is already 34, and will surely want as much game time as possible in the twilight of his career.
