Leeds United will be accelerating with their plans to make improvements to the squad now that Marcelo Bielsa is confirmed as staying put.
The Whites narrowly missed out on promotion last season and will be hoping to build on the performance level they showed last term while also ensuring they add suitable talent to the squad to ensure they continue to progress.
Bielsa will no doubt have plenty of new faces in mind, but one man who has sprung to the forefront of the Whites’ minds this weekend is Carlisle youngster Liam McCarron, who is being linked with a £250,000 move to Elland Road.
And here in the Tavern, we feel that this sort of signing is exactly what Leeds should be targeting to supplement some bigger name signings that might happen.
We saw last season that Bielsa is not averse to giving young players a chance at Elland Road, and while McCarron would probably not walk straight into the starting XI at Leeds, he would no doubt be given the chance to flourish when the time is right under Bielsa.
He demonstrated enough in his performances last season for Carlisle to suggest that he has the tools to succeed in the Championship, and with McCarron just 18 years of age, there is ample time for the youngster develop under one of the game’s great managers.
While Leeds will look for players of suitable quality to come in and make an impact on first-team affairs, signings like McCarron can always be of benefit, whether that be in terms of an asset to the first-team immediately, or a future star who can fetch a considerable fee into the club with his next move.
