Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Paul Heckingbottom has left Championship rivals Barnsley to take over as the new head coach at Elland Road.
The 40-year-old replaces the sacked Thomas Christiansen with the club tenth in the second tier table, and just seven points adrift of the play-off places. Yet the former defender has got work to do injecting some much-needed confidence into that Leeds squad, with the Whites having lost four of their last six Championship games, and facing the likes of fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United, Bristol City, Derby County, and Brentford before the end of February.
Subsequently, there have been many vocal Leeds fans in the Tavern this week, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Diario De Leon, which suggests that their club are interested in landing Huesca forward Alex Gallar in the summer.
The 25-year-old made the move to the Segunda Division side last summer and has since proven his worth with five goals and five assists in just 23 league games for the club, helping them to top spot in the Spanish second tier and very much on course for promotion to La Liga.
And it appears that the Spaniard’s excellent exploits at Huesca have attracted the interest of Heckingbottom’s Leeds, who are reportedly seeking to raid the Spanish club again having done so to land Samu Saiz last summer, who has since gone from strength to strength with nine goals for the Whites this term.
But whether Leeds are indeed able to lure Gallar, who could well have the chance of playing La Liga football next term, to Elland Road very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Samu Saiz has certainly hit his stride since making the move from Huesca to Leeds United last summer, and it seems that the Whites are seeking to raid the Spanish club once again.
And that’s because reports suggest that Paul Heckingbottom’s men are interested in forward Alex Gallar, who has bagged five goals and laid on five assists to help the club to top spot in the Spanish second division.
And Leeds are reportedly keen on a summer deal for the 25-year-old, yet much could depend on whether or not Gallar can help Huesca win promotion to La Liga this term – doing so could well scupper the Yorkshire side’s chances of luring him to Elland Road this summer.
