A new era has begun at Leeds and the fans gathered in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see who’s going to come into the club.
Marcelo Bielsa looks as though he’s going to make a few changes at the club, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. For a club the size of Leeds, progressing on their 13th place finish from last season is essential. After over a decade out of the Premier League, Leeds fans will be hoping that Bielsa can inspire a push back to the top division.
One player who could add some quality depth to the squad would be West Ham’s defensive prodigy, Reece Oxford who’s rated at £5 million by Transfermarkt. The England under-20 international spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach in order to get some valuable experience.
The 19-year-old defender has struggled to get a look in at West Ham following his superb debut against Arsenal three years ago and could well be keen on a loan away to the Championship. A tall and classy defender likened to Rio Ferdinand, Oxford could benefit greatly from playing in a tough league and physical league for a year. Moreover, with the arrival of new signing Issa Diop, Oxford could well see any potential game time at West Ham for the upcoming season as unlikely.
Such is the talent of Oxford that he could well threaten Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson for starting spot as the season progresses in Bielsa’s new look team.
Although he’s only young, Oxford has the physical attributes to cope with a full season in the Championship. It’s unsure whether West Ham would be able to offer him the games he wants at this stage of his career and therefore, Leeds should try and bring him in for the upcoming season.
