Bielsa and Radrizzani failed to address defensive cover

Leeds United are one of the form teams in the Championship at this moment in time as they continue to push for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites needed to make a number of changes over the course of the summer transfer window after a rather disastrous campaign under Paul Heckingbottom. And, it’s fair to say that they made the right decision by bringing Marcelo Bielsa to the club and invested in a number of new players.

However, there is still one problem that the club’s chairman Andrea Radrizzani and Marcelo Bielsa didn’t quite address that cost the club dearly last season and could come back to bite them once again in the current campaign.

Indeed, Leeds United failed to bring in central defender as they opted to bring in Barry Douglas, who is seen as a more attack-minded defender.

Sadly, Paul Heckingbottom’s downfall last season was his central defensive partnership as a number of injuries and a lack of personnel halted the Whites’ progress. And, already this season the likes of Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson have already suffered injuries, with Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling having to play out of position to cover.

Paudie O’Connor has joined Blackpool on loan and Leeds failed to find a replacement for Matthew Pennington, who spent last season on loan at Elland Road. So, the Whites could find themselves in a whole heap of trouble if they suffer another defensive setback before the transfer window re-opens in January.
