Marcelo Bielsa is on the hunt for midfielders to form his famous 3-3-1-3 formation and with that in mind, it might be a surprising next few months in the Transfer Tavern.
The Argentinian manager is known to to want a plethora of midfielders and attackers to implement his system. So far the club have been linked with a new goalkeeper and a forward, notably Derby’s Matej Vydra. While it’s essential that Leeds bring on a new goalkeeper, one area where the club are set for the upcoming season is in midfield. The reason why Bielsa doesn’t need to look elsewhere is because he has Ronaldo Vieira in his squad.
At only 19, the England under-21 international has already racked up 71 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire club. Going into his third full season at Leeds, Vieira is going into a crucial stage of his career.
At the beginning of last season, Vieira was held back from playing due to continuing tendinitis in his knee. While he may not have performed as well as he had done in his first full season with the club, Vieira still showed that he has some serious potential.
Capable of getting forward but also playing further back, Vieira could well play as part of a three-man midfield in Bielsa’s formation. A great passer, Ronaldo Vieira will likely develop into a deep-lying playmaker as he progresses through his career. With Bielsa as coach, this coming season could see the youngster develop his game massively. Bielsa has a talent in his midst, and he needs to use it.
