Bielsa-Guardiola dynamic could help Leeds finally return to the Premier League

Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the 2018/19 Championship campaign following the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as the club’s new manager.

The former Argentina and Chile boss takes over at Elland Road following the departure of Paul Heckingbottom earlier this month, what with the Englishman only overseeing four wins from his 16 matches in charge. Yet there is renewed optimism among our resident Whites fans following the appointment of the highly-rated Bielsa, with many hopeful that he can be the man to finally lead the Yorkshire giants back to the Premier League.

As such, there are many excited Leeds supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be further thrilled by recent reports suggesting that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could seek to help Bielsa out with some loan signings this summer.

And the dynamic between the Leeds and City chief could certainly help Leeds finally end their Premier League exile next season, with the Whites having not graced the top-flight since 2004.

Ultimately, Guardiola is full of admiration for Bielsa for the role he has played in his own career, with the Citizens boss labelling him as the ‘best coach in the world’ little over a year ago.

And given the vast amount of talent available to Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, both in terms of the first team and indeed those further down the pecking order, helping Leeds out with some loan additions can only be good news for the Yorkshire club.

The Whites have twice in the last two years got into position to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League, but have twice failed to see the job through, finishing seventh back in 2017, and then 13th last time round.

Thus, it’s clear that further quality and indeed depth is needed in the Leeds squad for them to sustain a promotion push, and with Guardiola reportedly willing to help Bielsa out, they could come in the form of some Man City youngsters.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn is one man who has been repeatedly linked with a move to Elland Road, and as such is a deal which could well take place in a bid to shore-up the goalkeeping ranks at Leeds, which were somewhat lacking in sufficient depth for much of last season.

And with Tosin Adarabioyo, Brahim Diaz, and Lukas Nmecha also thought to be on Bielsa’s radar, it’s plausible that he may well be able to land all three such is the dynamic between him and Guardiola – a dynamic which could be great news for Leeds.

And were the Whites to indeed lure some City players to Elland Road this summer, it would immediately enhance the quality of Bielsa’s squad ahead of the new season, as well as provide them with the sort of depth needed to excel in the long, hard slog that is a Championship campaign.

As such, with Guardiola reportedly willing to help the Argentine out, the dynamic between the Leeds head coach and the City manager could help Leeds finally return to the Premier League.
