Leeds United failed to secure a positive result in their last Championship outing as they were beaten by Stoke City in what was Nathan Jones’ first league home match.
The Whites will be desperate to return to winning ways with promotion to the Premier League all but confirmed at this moment in time.
Although, after witnessing their last performance in the Championship against the Potters, it’s clear to see that Marcelo Bielsa needs to bring in at least one player to strengthen his squad this month. But, the clock is ticking with only a week or so left in the January transfer window, so he will need to take things up a gear from here on in.
One player who the Leeds boss should look at luring to Elland Road is Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison.
Indeed, the attacking midfielder has established himself as one of the hottest topics in the Football League over the past season or so, as he managed to produce an incredible 12 goals and 23 assists last season and he now has three goals and 16 assists to his name in the current campaign.
Leeds United are still searching for a replacement for Samu Saiz after his January loan move to Spanish side Getafe.
Bielsa has relied on the likes of Jack Clarke and Pablo Hernandez to provide creativity in the final third in recent times, but the youngster was reportedly (as per the Daily Mail), the subject of an approach from Premier League side Crystal Palace recently, which Leeds rejected, but he could still depart at some point this month.
Maddison can operate in an attacking midfield role or on either wing, so his versatility could prove key in the remainder of the current campaign, with potential exits and injuries coming into play. His ability to create in the final third will benefit the Whites’ attackers in many ways, with more chances falling at their feet. Also, Bielsa would secure himself an attacker who is able to find the back of the net and can produce something out of nothing.
Overall, the 25-year-old is the kind of game-changer that can take their attacking play to another level, with promotion to the Premier League being a guarantee if they manage to secure his services.
