Marcelo Bielsa set to chase Premier League speedster as he looks to bolster Leeds United’s weaknesses on the wing. What a promising sentence after such a miserable end to the campaign, right?
Indeed, Leeds United are apparently looking to bring in Manchester City winger Brandon Barker this summer, as per reports from Football Insider.
The Whites have recently waved goodbye to City loanee Jack Harrison whose season-long loan would likely be ranked just above acceptable and are looking to bring in at least two stars who can play out wide.
A Leeds source is said to have revealed to Football Insider that the club are targeting Barker after his most recent campaign with Championship rivals Preston North End. And we are all for the idea.
While we agree that his time in Lancashire was hardly the most rewarding, a period in Scotland playing for Hibernian provided a more than adequate showreel for what the England youth international has to offer; pace, more pace, and some pace sprinkled on top (garnished with some pace).
Indeed, speed is the name of the game for the City winger, and with the club targeting Daniel James in January, another star who is gifted in the art of running fast, that’s evidently something Bielsa is looking to introduce into his already high-octane side.
Penetration is something Leeds seriously lacked heading into the final stages of the season when they let their grip on the automatic places slip, and though a paltry two goals and two assists in 20 Championship matches simply doesn’t cut the mustard on paper, there’s more to Barker’s game that meets the eye.
Now, as we enter the Bielsa 2.0 phase – after a year working out the English second division – Barker looks ideal.
