Leeds United are going to have to remain in the Championship for another season after a disappointing play-off campaign.
Transfers must surely be the order of business for the Whites this summer if they want to return to the Premier League and are to end what will be a 16-year wait.
However, as many clubs in the footballing world will know, not all acquisitions can have the desired effect and sometimes a team can be lumped with someone that does not do anything but suck out valuable financial resources from the coffers.
But, sometimes a club can get rather lucky and decide to pull out from a deal before it is too late and Leeds can certainly be one such side that can put themselves firmly in that category.
According to a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post in the summer of 2016, the Elland Road outfit decided to pull the plug on a deal for former Watford defender Joel Ekstrand.
The Swede was available on a free transfer, however, the Whites decided to perform a U-turn on the deal with concerns about his previous injury record.
And, boy, were they right to do so!
Ekstrand joined Bristol City in September but was ruled out for the majority of the campaign through injury and illness. Despite recovering in time, he was not used by the Robins any further after two appearances and was released at the end of his contract in the winter.
Rotherham United decided to take a chance on the defender in February 2017, however, he managed just one match for the Millers before missing the rest of the season with a knee injury and was subsequently told to pack his bags.
He has since returned to his homeland, having joined AIK in January 2018, however, things have hardly improved for the former Sweden international as he has played just twice for the Stockholm outfit.
What will have made the decision to dodge this bullet even sweeter will have been the fact that Pontus Jansson was eventually signed that summer instead initially on a loan deal (BBC) and has since become a cult-hero of some sort at Elland Road.
