Heckingbottom full of praise for Leeds United ace – Report

Leeds United fans here in the Tavern are feeling slightly disappointed after the weekend’s 2-2 draw against Reading, as they failed to make the most of their second-half lead.

Paul Heckingbottom has struggled to deliver the results that supporters want since taking over at Elland Road, with only one win to his name in what’s been a rather disappointing start to life in West Yorkshire. Although, he has uncovered a potential future star for Leeds United, with 21-year-old Bailey Peacock-Farrell enjoying an impressive couple of games in-between the sticks for the Whites. Indeed, according to reports in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom was high in praise for the ‘keeper after his recent performances.

The Leeds United chief said that Bailey Peacock-Farrell had put himself in control of the goalkeeper’s jersey at Leeds United, after delivering a couple of eye-catching performances in the Championship. Indeed, the youngster helped keep the scoreline down against league leaders Wolverhampton in midweek, and put in another influential performance against Reading at the weekend in their 2-2 draw.

Encouragingly, this has been a blessing in disguise for Leeds United after losing Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald to injury, which left Heckingbottom with no choice other than to gift Peacock-Farrell a chance in the first-team.

And, the Leeds boss shared these words about the youngster after being asked if he’s established himself as United’s number one for the time being:

“I wouldn’t say that. The shirt is his as it stands, but I’d want him to know that he’s got to earn and keep his place

“Today he made saves when he had to make saves. His kicking was good and his handling was good.”

Landlord’s Verdict:

Leeds United supporters will be delighted to have heard these kind words said about their young shot-stopper, having established himself as the main contender for the goalkeeper’s jersey. Although, with nine games left in their Championship campaign, many of our local residents are interested to see if he keeps his place from here on in.
