Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be frustrated with how their season has started to end, with yet another disappointing result at the weekend to Sunderland.
The Whites would have fancied their chances heading into the game at Elland Road on Saturday, however, they found themselves having to come from a goal behind to get a share of the points. The match was not without an incident when Gaetano Berardi was dismissed for the third time this season.
The red card means the full-back has played his last game for Leeds this season, as he is to serve a five-match ban and Paul Heckingbottom has admitted there was a cause for concern about his discipline.
However, he has since spoken with the Swiss defender and believes it was just a poor tackle and he will have no issues moving forward.
“I’ve just been speaking with Bera [Berardi] there about it because obviously I’m upset about that, frustrated, but Bera’s an honest person,” he told Leeds Live.
“I’ve questioned ‘has he lost his head and his discipline?’ but he’s genuinely going for the ball. He’s accepted it was a bad tackle.
“I’ve not seen it back. I’m just relaying what Bera’s said. We’ll have a look at it, but he’s genuinely said it’s not through frustration, it was genuinely going for the ball.”
Either way, our resident Whites have been far from impressed with the season so far and aren’t exactly fond of either Heckingbottom or Berardi right now.
Leeds fans in the Tavern will be disappointed with the poor disciplinary record that follows Berardi, and many of the locals believe if he were to able to maintain his discipline, then the Whites could be further up the Championship table and pushing for a Premier League spot.
