According to Sky Sports, Sheffield United are closing in on securing a loan deal for Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn.
Jurgen Klopp has recently hailed Woodburn’s pre-season performances, declaring him “100% back”, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. This comes after what was a tricky season for the 18-year-old last time out, during which time he mustered only two senior appearances for the Reds and his development looked to have stalled somewhat.
A loan spell, featuring regular football, would be the smart next step for the Wales international at this stage of his career.
Whilst the Blades appear close to seeing a deal done, there could still be time for other interested Championship sides to make their move for Woodburn.
Leeds have been busy recently, and would do well to keep their transfer activity going with the acquisition of Woodburn on loan.
The recent arrivals of Barry Douglas and Jack Harrison have improved the mood at Elland Road, but there is still work to be done if the Whites are serious about making themselves genuine promotion contenders.
Further quality and strength in depth is required in attacking areas. A loan deal for Woodburn would be an affordable way for Marcelo Bielsa to bring in a back up option for Kemar Roofe.
Woodburn’s versatility, which allows him to operate comfortably anywhere across the forward line, could become a valuable asset to Bielsa and would also help to ensure that the youngster gets regular game time across the course of the gruelling Championship campaign.
This deal would suit both Woodburn and the club, but Leeds will have to act fast to ensure that it isn’t the Bramall Lane faithful who will be celebrating Woodburn’s arrival this summer.
