According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, in-demand winger Jack Clarke will stay at Leeds United this month. The 18-year-old has come up through the ranks at the Championship table-toppers in the last few years to make his senior debut for the Whites this season, with his mightily impressive efforts for Marcelo Bielsa’s men seemingly attracting interest from sides in the Premier League.
And that’s because reports recently (as per Sky Sports) have linked the likes of Tottenham and Southampton to the Englishman, only for his agent, former Leeds ace Ian Harte, to reveal recently (as per TEAMtalk) that the winger will indeed be staying at Elland Road.
And the 41-year-old’s recent revelations are sure to come as music to the ears of Leeds fans up and down the country, with those comments the perfect way to round off the club’s fine January.
Ultimately, Bielsa’s men headed into 2019 very much in promotion contention and thus eyeing up a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004, although it was clear that there were some deals they needed to strike to enhance their promotion credentials in the second half of the season.
And that was none-more-so evident than in the goalkeeping department given Bailey Peacock-Farrell headed into January as the club’s only senior shot-stopper, prompting Bielsa to seal a very shrewd deal to bring Kiko Casilla to Elland Road from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
And with the Leeds manager also doing a decent job of further streamlining his squad this month in sanctioning the loan departures of the likes of Samuel Saiz, Pawel Cibicki, and Hadi Sacko, the Championship leaders will surely be satisfied with the fine work they have done during the winter window.
And retaining the services of the supremely talented Clarke will surely be the icing on the cake.
The 18-year-old hadn’t even played a professional match for Leeds this time last year to underline his meteoric rise under the guidance of Bielsa this term, with his senior debut for the Whites coming back in October in their draw against Brentford.
Yet the winger has since come on leaps and bounds with 13 further Championship appearances for the Whites, in which time he has bagged twice and laid on two assists to help Leeds to top spot in the table.
And with 11 successive appearances in the second tier, Clarke has become an increasingly important member of Bielsa’s squad and someone the Argentine clearly trusts to do a job in his team between now and the end of the season – no wonder there was interest in his services this month.
However, for his agent Harte to suggest that he is going nowhere, given the immense talent he has got to affect things for Leeds both in the future as well as the present, is exactly what Leeds fans would have wanted to hear a few days before the close of the deadline.
In fact, retaining Clarke, which looks set to happen now as per Harte, would round off a fine January window for the Championship table-toppers as they go in search of a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
