Leeds United would love to catch up with Norwich City in first position, but securing promotion to the Premier League would be more than good enough for supporters.
The Whites have been a dominant force in the Championship this season, with promotion to the Premier League creeping closer as positive results continue to be produced.
With the transfer window opening next month and the Christmas period now upon us, Marcelo Bielsa will have his sights set on securing at least one signing in the hope that promotion can be achieved.
The Whites have already had to deal with a number of injuries in the current campaign, but anything goes in the ideal XI as injuries and potential departures are thrown out the window.
With that in mind, here’s a look at what Leeds United’s ideal Xmas XI would look like…
LEEDS UNITED’S IDEAL XMAS XI
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has made a number of mistakes this season and Leeds United have been linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiran Westwood, so Bielsa should turn to the latter to get the job done.
Luke Ayling is currently spending time out on the sidelines due to injury, but he would definitely be a part of Leeds’ ideal XI if he was fit. Also, Barry Douglas has proved to be a valuable signing after joining back in the summer months, with his delivery and vision improving things in the final third.
Pontus Jansson has been one of the most consistent performers in the side at the heart of the defence, while Liam Cooper has impressed after struggling in the last campaign.
Indeed, Kalvin Phillips should arguably be playing Premier League football having witnessed his world-class performances this season. Mateusz Klich has been magical in the final third and Adam Forshaw has silenced his doubters since returning from injury.
Samu Saiz is set to join Getafe on loan for the remainder of the current campaign and Ezgjan Alioski has been a huge disappointment, so Bielsa must go all out to sign Ibai Gomez, who would provide goals and assists consistently. And, two time PFA Fans’ Player of the Month winner Pablo Hernandez will line up on the opposite flank, having turned on the style throughout the current campaign.
Of course, Kemar Roofe will no doubt attract attention from Premier League clubs in the January transfer window, but Leeds will be desperate to hold onto him as he has been influential so far and still has a big part to play.
