Leeds United extended their lead at the top of the Championship table following a well-deserved win against Derby County at the weekend.
The fixture was surrounded with controversy after Marcelo Bielsa admitted to sending a spy to oversee Frank Lampard’s pre-match training sessions. On the field, Leeds were far superior to the Rams and deservedly took the lead through Kemur Roofe on the 20-minute mark. After the break, Jack Harrison doubled their advantage to secure a massive three points for the Whites.
Bielsa’s men extended their lead at the top of the table to five points with the victory. The former Argentina manager is expected to complete the signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla, in the coming weeks and should continue to add to his ranks. Bolstering his squad in January could give Leeds a massive boost in the title race.
One man they could target is Basaksehir maestro – Irfan Kahveci. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the midfielder has been a mainstay for his current employers after joining the club in January 2017. Kahveci has been ever-present for his side this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions in Turkey.
The 23-year-old is extremely versatile and can occupy a number of roles in the engine room. Kahveci is disciplined enough to play in a deeper role but also possesses the technical ability to play as an advanced playmaker. He has helped his side’s cause with three goals and four assists from midfield highlighting the impact the Turkey international could have at Elland Road. The youngster is still improving and developing – working with a world-class coach like Bielsa could do wonders for his development.
Luring the midfielder to England would prove to be a wonderful piece of business.
