Jamie Shackleton is going to be a vital cog in Bielsa’s Leeds machine

Leeds have made a superb start to the season, winning three games out of three including a superb 4-1 win over Derby County at the weekend.

Most recently the club beat Bolton in the Carabao Cup, which once again showed how well the team have bought into Marcelo Bielsa’s progressive style of play.

Up front, Kemar Roofe has been spectacular while Samu Saiz has arguably been one of the best players in the league.

What makes Leeds’ performances even more impressive is the fact that the club haven’t brought in many players over the window but also how quickly they have taken up Bielsa’s coaching.

The Argentinian is known to like to work with small squads in order to build continuity rather than having too many players spread out across the squad.

Jamie Shackleton made his debut at the weekend against Derby and although he’s only 18-years-old, he could prove to be an incredibly valuable player for Bielsa’s midfield. The youngster also signed a new three-year this week following his impressive performances in pre-season.

The Breakdown

Coming through the ranks at the academy, Shackleton was involved in Leeds’ pre-season games against York City, Oxford United and Guiseley.

So far Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich have started in midfield for Bielsa but it’s unlikely that both will make it through the season without picking up an injury.

While Bielsa does have Lewis Baker who can come in, Shackleton is going to provide some essential depth to the midfield.

The fact that he was the first substitute to be used on Saturday shows how much Bielsa rates him and with the quality he has with the ball, it looks like he could be an ideal fit for Bielsa’s system.

Leeds fans…what do you think about the youngster?
