Leeds United’s accounts for the 2018/19 season were released on Wednesday morning.
The past campaign was one in which the Whites will have likely expected to go up to the Premier League, and that looked like it would be the case for quite a while. In the end, though, they were beaten by Derby County in the Championship play-off semi-finals, which saw them confined to the second tier for another campaign.
Phil Hay shared the early news of their financial records for last season, and they do not make for fantastic reading for the Elland Road outfit. Whilst not revealing the full numbers, he explained that the headline figures are an operating loss of £36m and an annual loss of £21m – not fantastic for a second tier side.
Leeds United’s 2018-19 accounts are out this morning. Will publish a detailed piece on these later but the headline figures are an operating loss of £36m and an annual loss of £21m. #lufc

As you can imagine, the Leeds fans have been reacting in big numbers to the news, with one suggesting that they may have to sell star player Kalvin Phillips to balance the books. You can see some of the best comments from Twitter below…
We’d have to sell Kalvin to balance the books. I’d rather go into administration.

Ffp is a joke the fact a club like us. Who don’t spend big, have big gates, always televised are struggling to stay within the profit and loss just shows how unrealistic it really is.

Doesn’t look good from a financial point of view. EFL will look into this unless Leeds go up

Betting the house on us going up this year. That ‘best owner since Ridsdale’ tag may come back to bite.
