Leeds United are heading into the summer with a wave of uncertainty currently around the club, following the shock loss of Garry Monk as manager just a few weeks ago.
There are bound to be plenty of candidates in the hat for the big job at Elland Road, and the Leeds fans here in the Tavern are quietly confident that whoever comes in can build on what Monk started and mount a push for promotion next term.
To do so though, the squad will need strengthening over the summer, and our landlord thinks that one area the Whites need to add further quality to is up front, with somewhat of an over reliance on Chris Wood’s goals during 2016/17.
One player who was mentioned during conversation at the bar this week is Burnley striker Ashley Barnes, who spent much of last year playing second fiddle to Andre Gray and Sam Vokes.
Barnes has seen his career hampered by injuries, but he appears to be over the worst of those now, and scored some crucial goals for the Clarets last season. His ability in the air, and his lethal instinctive finishing make him an excellent striker, especially at Championship level.
Burnley might not want to lose Barnes, but the prospect of first team football on a regular basis and forming a goal laden partnership with Chris Wood could tempt Barnes to fancy a move to Elland Road, and he would certainly be an excellent signing for the club this summer.
Leeds fans, what do you think? Would Barnes be good buy? Let us know your thoughts!
