According to the Birmingham Mail transfer live blog (21/01/19 09:02), Aston Villa and West Brom could face a challenge for the signature of Tyrone Mings from Leeds United.
Mings has struggled for regular game time with Bournemouth so far this season, managing just two Premier League starts so far.
Since his summer switch to the Vitality Stadium in 2015, Mings has failed to ever really maintain an extended run in the first team – largely due to a succession of serious injuries he has sustained since joining the south coast club.
At this stage in his career, the 25-year-old defender needs to get back to playing regularly. A return to Championship level this month offers his best chance of getting the game time he needs.
Leeds are currently flying high at the top of the Championship table. However, Marcelo Bielsa’s squad lacks depth, so he will need to make signings this month if his side are to sustain their title charge for the rest of the campaign.
Mings is comfortable as both a left-back and a centre-back, and such versatility would quickly see him become a vital asset to the Whites.
A switch to Elland Road could see Mings get his career back on track, but he also represents exactly the kind of addition the club must make if they’re to finally seal a return to the Premier League this season.
