Leeds United supporters have been reasonably satisfied in recent times despite seeing their side only muster a draw in their most recent Championship encounter.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men went into their clash with Brentford at Elland Road having lost just one of their preceding 11 league games, yet having won just one of their previous three. And they looked on course for a second loss of the season when Neal Maupay’s penalty gave the Bees the lead on Saturday, only for Pontus Jansson to grab an equaliser late on to secure a 1-1 draw for the hosts, a result which saw them slip to third place in the Championship table.
Nonetheless, there have been many satisfied Leeds fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter in recently to respond to a post from 17-year-old striker Ryan Edmondson, with many predicting a big future for the young sensation.
And given how much Bielsa has improved several players already during his short time at Elland Road, alongside the manager’s willingness to give youth an opportunity, those Leeds fans are right to suggest the Edmondson could be destined for big things under the Argentine.
Ultimately, the 17-year-old came up through the ranks at York City to make his senior bow for the club back in 2017, only for Leeds to lure him to Elland Road back in November 2017 after just one appearance for the former.
And the striker has since appeared a handful of times for the Whites to suggest that he is very much on the peripheries of the first team at the Yorkshire giants, making his debut for the club against Queens Park Rangers back in May, before adding to that with another substitute’s cameo in their 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City last month.
Thus, there is little doubting that the boyhood Leeds fan is already living the dream by turning out for the Whites, yet things look like they could get even better under the stewardship of Bielsa, who Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola deems the ‘best coach in the world’.
Already, the Argentine has improved several Leeds players to transform the club from one lingering in mid-table to one very much in promotion contention – and with very few signings made during the summer, much of that has been down to Bielsa’s coaching and thus improvement of the players already at Elland Road.
Be it Kemar Roofe, who was the Championship’s in-form man prior to injury, or indeed Mateusz Klich, who spent last season out on loan he was so far down the pecking order, Bielsa has already worked wonders, and that must be of keen interest to Edmondson as he himself strives to improve and become an even better player – Bielsa can certainly aid with that process.
And the Argentine is more than happy to put his faith in youth this term what with the 17-year-old having been on the bench in four of their league games this season, appearing against Birmingham, while the likes of fellow youngsters Roberts and Jack Clarke have also earned minutes in the pitch in the Championship.
Thus, the future is certainly bright at Elland Road under Bielsa, both for the supporters hoping to see their club back in the Premier League, and indeed the young players, who have the ideal mentor in the Argentine to learn from and improve under.
As such, those Leeds fans predicting big things for Edmondson are absolutely right to do so.
