Leeds United supporters have been pretty satisfied throughout the international break given their team are currently sat third in the Championship table.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men have made a very encouraging start to the new season in thrusting themselves into promotion contention, winning six of their opening 12 league matches, and losing on just one occasion. However, they have picked up just one win in their four games prior to the international break in beating Hull City, drawing with Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford, and losing to Birmingham City, so the Whites will be hoping to rebuild their early season momentum when they travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Nonetheless, there have been many satisfied Leeds fans up and down the country in recent times given their team’s promising start to the campaign, although several have taken to Twitter in recent times to suggest that the Whites career of Yosuke Ideguchi is coming to an end.
And after a tricky time at Elland Road since his move to the club back in January, those Leeds fans are spot on to suggest that time is up on the £900,000-rated (as per Transfermarkt) man’s stint at the Yorkshire giants.
Ultimately, there was a sense of excitement and anticipation among supporters when the Japan international made the move to Leeds back in January of this year, what with the midfielder impressing in his homeland with Gamba Osaka in the years preceding his Elland Road move.
And with goals for his country as well, many would have hoped for big things from Ideguchi upon arrival at the Yorkshire club, albeit he was immediately shipped out on loan to Cultural Leonesa in a bid for the regular football he was unlikely to get under Paul Heckingbottom at Elland Road.
But he mustered just five appearances for the second tier Spanish side, which left him in a testing situation upon return to Leeds in the summer, not least given the appointment of the highly-rated Bielsa as the new Whites boss.
And the Leeds manager also shipped him out on loan during the transfer window with Ideguchi making the move to German side Greuther Furth, with that now two Whites bosses opting to let the Japanese star leave the club in a bid for regular football – clearly, he is not anywhere near the first team.
And that is particularly worrying for Ideguchi given Bielsa has a somewhat small squad at his disposal at Elland Road this season, so for him to not even get a look-in under the Argentine spells danger for the 22-year-old’s long-term prospects at the Yorkshire heavyweights.
A recent ligament injury looks set to keep him out for much of the 2018/19 season to add further to Ideguchi’s woes, but quite simply his start to life in English football has not gone according to plan, and it already looks like it’ll be difficult to recover from.
And with Leeds seemingly moving in the right direction, and already someway ahead of where they were when the 22-year-old arrived in January, it’s difficult to see how Ideguchi can command regular football at Elland Road anytime soon – yes he’s still young enough, but there haven’t been any indications yet that he is good enough.
Thus, those Leeds fans speculating that Ideguchi’s career at the club is over appear to be absolutely spot on.
