Leeds: Fans laud Edmondson after England U19s debut

Loads of Leeds United supporters have been lauding Ryan Edmondson as being ‘first-team’ worthy after the Whites product scored on his England Under 19s debut.

The 18-year-old has only appeared for the Elland Road natives’ first-team on one occasion since Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as the head coach of the West Yorkshire outfit (TransferMarkt), with the Argentine turning to the young forward as a late substitution in a home defeat to Birmingham City on September 22, 2018.

Edmondson has been named on the bench twice since his second senior appearance, but has mostly been resigned to Under 23s football with Carlos Corberan, for whom he scored eleven goals in nine games for last season on route to the Professional Development League North Division title (Flash Score).

He already has one from one to his name in the Whites’ youth ranks this term, and was drafted into Paul Simpson’s England U19s squad earlier this month as a late replacement for the injured Folarin Balogun of Arsenal.

Despite his late call-up, Edmondson started the Young Lions’ friendly with Greece on Thursday while wearing the number nine jersey and scored the second goal as Simpson’s squad ran out 3-1 victors.

A number of England first-team stars and manager Gareth Southgate were all spotted watching on at St. George’s Park, and Edmondson has now come in for a wealth of support from Leeds supporters…
