When you mention the name Tony Yeboah to a Leeds United fan they tend to have fond memories of the Ghanaian striker’s brief time at the club. One of his most famous moments for the club came 23 years ago on Sunday when he scored a stunning hat-trick including one of the best ever Premier League goals against Wimbledon.

Yeboah only just managed to break the 50 appearances milestone for the Whites in his short stay with the club but he still managed to win the fans over with his superb goals and his goalscoring rate. In 52 games for the club the 52-year-old managed 27 goals, going at a rate of scoring once every two games. That sort of ratio is incredible for a man who had so little time to adapt to the Premier League and he’ll always be a Leeds hero.
Things at Elland Road have changed a lot since Yeboah’s days, though, and now they’re attempting to get back to the lofty heights of the Premier League with Marcelo Bielsa in charge. The Argentine could do with someone who scores goals like Yeboah used to but for now he’ll have to get by with what he’s got as he aims to keep the Elland Road faithful sitting pretty at the top of the table.
You can read The Whites’ verdict on Yeboah’s worldie here:
Personally I think that was better than the volley against Liverpool, how he controls it around players and then on his hip and unleashes that lightening bolt about 80mph, pure class #legend
