Plenty of Leeds United fans have reacted to a latest report linking Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala with a summer move to the club.
With the Whites sat top of the Championship table, Premier League football looks a distinct possibility for next season and Marcelo Bielsa will undoubtedly have one eye on his preparations for next term.
One of the main areas which the Argentine coach will need to address is his defence, with Ben White set to return from his loan spell to Brighton whilst Gaetano Berardi is yet to sign a new contract at the club and could leave on a free transfer.
With Liam Cooper set to be the only recognised centre-back on the books at Leeds come the summer, reports have re-emerged linking the club with Middlesbrough’s Ayala, who is available on a free transfer. The 29-year-old Spaniard has played 25 times in the league for ‘Boro this term in what is his sixth season with the club.
Reacting to a tweet by @EllandRoadHQ, some Leeds fans have reacted negatively to a potential move for the Spaniard, whose average of 1.2 tackles per game is well below the Whites’ current centre-back options:
What a step back that would be @ben6white is the defender we need

I know Bielsa gets the best out of players but this lad is awful

Despite those negative reactions, a handful of fans gave positive reactions to the transfer report with some claiming his defensive attributes (5.9 clearances per game) could help the Yorkshire club next term.
I think he will be a great addition really good in the air, be a good leader aswell

If he’s good enough for bielsa, he’s good enough for me, in bielsa we trust 🙏🙏

Ayala certainly has experience in the English game but very little in the Premier League, meaning he would have to adjust just as much as the Leeds players who are already at the club.
Bielsa could well work his magic and get the best out of the former Liverpool man, but the Argentine tactician may be better suited at bringing in someone with better experience of top-flight football.
