A selection of Leeds United supporters have been responding on social media to a post by the West Yorkshire outfit on Twitter, announcing that the Whites’ upcoming Championship clash at home to Derby County will be dedicated to the Kick It Out campaign.
Phillip Cocu’s Rams travel to Elland Road on September 21 for the first meeting between the two sides since facing one another in last season’s play off semi-finals, which saw Frank Lampard’s Pride Park natives book their date at Wembley.
Leeds have taken the decision to dedicate the Derby clash to Kick It Out and the work they do trying to eliminate racism and discrimination from football in light of recent events, such as Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham being targeted on social media after his side lost on penalties to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.
Manchester United star Paul Pogba has also found himself subject to racially infused abuse on social media this season, with the 2018 World Cup winner targeted after missing a spot-kick against Wolves in the Premier League.
England striker Marcus Rashford, too, has been targeted after missing a penalty, with the Red Devils product targeted just days after his team-mate.
Leeds dedicated the visit of Millwall to Elland Road last season to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Kick It Out.
Here are some of the reactions shared by Leeds United supporters following the club’s announcement that the Derby clash will be dedicated to Kick It Out…
I love it. Good initiative

I support the sentiment, but please note that shirt!

Boring virtue signalling….more interested in whether bielsa is going to have a plan to be more creative at home.

As if I couldn’t love my club any more, they take a step like this, now all you need is a prayer room and I can be 100% happy.

The only colour that matters is the colour of the shirt.

Should reserve that for when we play Millwall at home

Can’t we just win three points?
