Many Leeds United fans have reacted to a comment made by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville on the outcome of the Championship season.
Speaking on The Football Show (Tuesday, Sky Sports, 9am), former Manchester United defender Neville and Norwich City director Stuart Webber discussed a report claiming Premier League clubs would attempt to block the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League if the Championship season as not completed on the pitch.
The initial story on the potential block was released by The Telegraph after clubs from England’s top flight refused to play at neutral venues. Those clubs against the Championship season on a points-per-game system would seemingly be prepared to appeal promotion for the likes of Leeds and second-placed West Bromwich Albion.
The debate over how the football season will finish in both the Premier League and the Championship remains open with club captains from the former set to meet on Wednesday afternoon via video link.
Reacting to footage of the conversation between Neville and Webber via Sky Sports’ official Twitter account, these Leeds fans gave their opinion on the matter…
“I suggest you stay clear of Leeds, Stuart!” 👀
Should promotion and relegation be scrapped if the season can’t be resumed? 🔃❌pic.twitter.com/23HAzOtIO5

I wouldn’t say we’re the least popular, we’re the club that people love to hate. Having us back in the PL would make it more exciting, that’s hard to argue. But it’s something we must earn, and 99% of Leeds fans would agree that we want to earn it on the pitch.

If clubs in the Premiership want to refuse relegation and refuse promotion from the Championship, will the clubs compensate the clubs in Championship promotion spots for the money lost? As for the 1939 season, only 3 games were played, not the vast majority.

He’s only caring about Norwich here but its the same for L1/2. Is it fair that those comps are potentially curtailed by PPG but Champ still potentially goes ahead and teams go down into L1.

That comparison makes no sense whatsoever. If you finish bottom of your league you are relegated irrespective of what other leagues do.

How is a 37 game season with teams separated by points based on wins/draws/losses the same as a a cup competition were 8 teams have the same chance 🤷🏻♂️ #Selfinterest
