Leeds United: Fans react to Marcelo Bielsa’s endorsement of Alfie McCalmont

Plenty of Leeds United fans have reacted to a tweet form Beren Cross over Marcelo Bielsa’s liking of academy graduate Alfie McCalmont.
Having progressed through the various youth ranks at Elland Road, young midfielder McCalmont has been handed a couple of first team opportunities by Argentine boss Bielsa. Featuring twice in the EFL Cup against Salford City and Stoke, the Thirsk-born footballer has also impressed for the Yorkshire club’s under-23 team, playing regularly for Carlos Corberan’s side.
With promotion to the Premier League very much on the cards for Leeds, the future of McCalmont in the first team remains uncertain, but journalist Beren Cross has shared an article which indicates Bielsa has plans for the youngster. Cross reveals that he asked Bielsa who he would like to replace current player Kalvin Phillips if he was to receive an offer from elsewhere, with the former Athletic Bilbao man picking out McCalmont.
Reacting to Cross’ tweet on Bielsa’s liking of the midfielder, these Leeds fans gave their opinions on the youngster’s first team chances…
Last summer, Orta asked Bielsa what he wanted if someone blew the bank for Phillips. Bielsa went away and watched every under-23 match of 18/19. He came back and said Alfie McCalmont was ready.. A long read on Bielsa’s next project. #lufc https://t.co/ZZlj4NDlLu

Not doubting it, but why then wouldn’t he use McCalmont earlier on when Phillips was suspended?
Stuart Dallas is outstanding as a full back on either side but he definitely looked uncomfortable in the middle.

I don’t care what anyone says! No other manager is doing that much graft and also in effect turning down the option to sign someone else for decent money! I just love the man so much 💙💛

Why he hasn’t gone out on loan cos he’s molding him ready to be a permanent fixture in side when times right his way saves club millions

Some endorsement for young Alfie coming from the master must have felt ten feet tall after reading that MOT.

Phillips is class. Leeds should still pull out all the stops to keep him
