Leeds United might not be playing in the Premier League next season, but that does not seem to have stopped some sections of the media linking them a player who would be regarded as a statement signing for the club.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo are running with a story stating that the Whites are interested in Jese Rodriguez once again.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side were thought to have been interested in signing him in January and tried to do all they could to get a deal over the line, but nothing materialised (El Desmarque).
However, it would be highly difficult to see the Spaniard playing his football at Elland Road next season and it might just be worth taking the report with a pinch of salt.
It would be unlikely that Jese would be prepared to drop down to the Championship after spells in La Liga with Real Madrid and most recently with Real Betis (which hardly went well), Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain (where he flopped) and in the Premier League with Stoke City and that was nothing short of a disaster either.
Also, it would be unlikely that Leeds would be prepared to pay the French giants to take him off their books permanently this summer as it could come at a huge cost.
The Whites’ failure to win promotion is going to have had an effect on the players that they will be able to attract, whilst the money they would be able to spend and give to players as wages will be rather limited.
Bielsa’s squad has plenty of areas that need strengthening and splashing the cash on an attacker that scored just two goals in 18 games for Betis hardly makes sense.
Leeds fans, what do you make of the alleged interest in Jese? Can you see him moving to Elland Road this summer? Let us know your thoughts below!
