Leeds United: Bamford can go from zero to hero in one game

Leeds United: Bamford can go from zero to hero in one game

Patrick Bamford has some making up to do in the second leg of the play-off semi-final. Still, his poor form and embarrassing simulation against Villa would all be forgotten if he sends Leeds to Wembley though.

The Englishman was having a great season until his performances dried up towards the last few months and that meant the club’s results did too. One point from their last four games wasn’t good enough and Bamford is partly to blame for that.

His pathetic dive to the ground against Villa topped off all that and the fans’ patience is wearing thin. He’ll surely return to the starting 11 against Derby tonight though and he has the quality to turn his form and the fans’ attitude towards him around.

It’s a massive opportunity to put the recent past behind him and cement his place in the team next season. Bielsa needs players who can deal with the pressure of playing for Leeds, but he’s lacked that composure when it’s really mattered recently.

The club will most likely look for another striker in summer, despite having the £5.4m-rated ace (Transfermarkt) in their ranks, so it’s important he finishes the season on a high to keep the club’s thoughts on him positive over the summer. He has the chance to go from zero to hero in a matter of weeks.

If the Whites do go up this season, they’ll be remembered fondly for years to come. The poor form and behaviour will be forgotten and his goals will be remembered. So it’s simple. Bamford’s season comes down to one, hopefully two, games.
