When Leeds United announced the signing of Adam Forshaw last year, their supporters had every right to feel excited given the midfielder’s previous escapades in the Championship.
Having experienced promotion to the Premier League with Middlesbrough in 2016, the 27-year-old seemingly had all the ingredients needed to be a success at Elland Road.
However, this has unfortunately not been the case for Forshaw who has fallen well below the standard expected of him during his spell with the Whites.
Despite enjoying a positive start to life in West Yorkshire under the guidance of then boss Paul Heckingbottom, Leeds’ decision to replace the Englishman with Marcelo Bielsa ahead of the 2018/19 campaign clearly had an impact on the £4.5m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt).
Although he would go on to make 32 appearances in all competitions for the Whites, Forshaw’s lack of dynamism saw him struggle to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven with the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips often being the preferred partnership in midfield.
With Leeds in need of an overhaul of their squad following a failure to secure promotion to the Premier League earlier this month, Bielsa should consider cutting ties with Forshaw in the summer.
Despite showing glimpses of what he is capable of producing over the past 18 months, the former Brentford ace’s lack of consistency is clearly a problem for Leeds as they simply cannot rely on him to deliver the goods week-in, week-out.
Considering the fact that he failed to score or provide any assists for his team-mates despite playing in the heart of midfield, it could be argued that losing Forshaw would not have any detrimental impact on the Whites at all.
In fact, if Bielsa does indeed make him available for transfer, he could use the money recuperated from his sale to bolster his squad in a number of different areas.
What do you think Leeds fans? Should Bielsa sell Forshaw in the summer? Or is it worth giving the midfielder another opportunity to impress next season? Let us know below.
