Leeds United have received some great transfer news concerning loan signing Ben White.
According to the Football Insider, Brighton and Hove Albion have assured the Whites they won’t recall the centre-back in the January transfer window.
White’s form this season has sparked speculation of a potential move to Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are thought to be interested in the 22-year-old.
With the struggles in attack, it is paramount the Yorkshire side ensures they don’t lose players in defence, otherwise they could well find themselves feeling light in both areas of the pitch. The side have scored the fewest amount of goals of any team in the top four of the Championship, showing their struggles in the final third (via BBC).
However, their defence is far better than any of their play-off rivals, or any team in the division. The Whites have conceded just 10 goals in their 20 games so far this campaign, the least amount of goals any second division side has let in at this stage since Notts County conceded just eight during the 1922/1923 season (Stats Zone via LUFCDATA).
White has been one of the reasons for that defensive record, topping the charts in crucial defensive categories. He has made the most interceptions, the most clearances, committed the third-least fouls and been dribbled past the second-least number of times per game in Leeds’ squad (via WhoScored).
His performances saw him earn praise from former Leeds man Noel Whelan, who claimed he can be ‘the next Harry Maguire’ (via Football Insider).
Remaining strong in defence is crucial for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. It could be the difference between them gaining promotion to the top flight or missing out yet again. The news regarding White provides a big boost for the remainder of the season for the Elland Road outfit.
