Leeds United: Captain Liam Cooper optimistic ahead of Aleksander Mitrovic challenge

Leeds United: Captain Liam Cooper optimistic ahead of Aleksander Mitrovic challenge - Leeds United

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has voiced his optimism over the battle to keep Aleksander Mitrovic quite in the side’s clash against Fulham at the weekend.

Surely Leeds can't blow a 10-point lead on 3rd?

They will

They will

They won't

They won't

Cooper claimed that the team know what they need to do to stop the in-form forward.

He said: “We know what we need to do to nullify Mitrovic. He’s an unbelievable player, he plays for his country, he’s proven at that level, he scores goals at this level and I think we’ve got to do everything we can to nullify his attributes and then concentrate on us.” (Source: Leeds Live)

Mitrovic has been firing on all cylinders for Scott Parker’s side this season, scoring 16 goals in just 21 league games which leaves him as the division’s top scorer (via Transfermarkt).

However, he isn’t up against just any defence as he sees himself face a backline that has conceded the second-least amount of goals in the top four divisions in England (via BBC).

The battle will be interesting especially when you take a look at the steely nature of Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Both Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas sit in the top 1o in the Championship for the number of tackles won this season, and with Mitrovic’s fiery nature, it could be a titanic tussle (via LUFC Data).

Mitrovic, himself, isn’t a stranger to a tackle or two, having already racked up five yellow cards this year.

He also proves incredibly combative as he wins, on average, four aerial duels every game this campaign (via WhoScored).

Mitrovic is different to many strikers the Whites would have faced this season. Not only will he fight for every ball, but he is also incredibly potent in front of goal. The Leeds backline will need to be on their toes if they are to stop the Serbian and leave west London with all three points.

Leeds fans, how do you think your defence will cope with Mitrovic? Let us know your thoughts!
