Leeds United may be set to receive a blow to their wish to sign Rangers defender Connor Goldson after Football Insider revealed that the defender could be offered a new contract by the Scottish Premiership club.
The 27-year-old is attracting the interest of a number of English clubs with Leeds being joined by Premier League side West Ham United and Championship rivals Fulham in the race to sign him this summer.
With such interest emerging in the former Brighton and Hove Albion defender, Ibrox sources have now informed Football Insider that they believe they can keep him at the club.
Indeed, the former Liverpool midfielder has started Goldson in almost every game since he took charge at the Scottish club, despite signing other defensive options along the way.
Prior to his arrival in 2018 at Rangers, the defender appeared for Brighton, Cheltenham and Shrewsbury Town, starting his professional career with the latter.
Goldson would no doubt be a superb option for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side, especially with an automatic promotion to the Premier League set to be sealed when the Championship season returns to action. Indeed, in 29 appearances in the league this season, he has helped the Gers keep a very respectable 15 clean sheets (Transfermarkt).
With Ben White set to return to Brighton following his excellent loan spell at Elland Road, Bielsa will be left with few options at the heart of his defence and the Argentine will therefore be expected to scour the transfer market for a new signing. But he may have to look elsewhere if the £3.6m-valued ace commits his future to Rangers.
