The Leeds United fans here in the Transfer Tavern simply cannot wait for the new campaign. Indeed, while the last one ended in rather miserable fashion under the stewardship of Paul Heckingbottom, our resident Whites have been absolutely thrilled by the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa.
With the Argentine on board, expectations at Elland Road are higher than ever as our resident Yorkshiremen dream of a Premier League return. Still, the former Chile coach cannot be expected to do it all on his own and clearly requires backing in the transfer market as he looks to impose his trademark style on the Championship.
So, having said that, reports from the Daily Telegraph have gone down a storm. They claim Derby County boss Frank Lampard has opted to Matej Vydra off of the Rams’ pre-season training camp in Tenerife as Leeds look to conclude transfer talks with the former West Brom.
Those in West Yorkshire are understood to want the 26-year-old to become Bielsa’s marquee summer signing as they look to wrap up the details of a final fee, as well as a payment plan in order to bring the Czech striker to Elland Road. As you can imagine, considering his wonderful record in the second tier, the punters propping up our bar are absolutely delighted.
If Leeds can secure a deal for Vyrdra quickly, they’ll be in very good shape indeed. The appointment of Bielsa has created some strong momentum to take into the new season and there is certainly nothing like a big striker signing to properly act on that indeed.
Now, if they can pair him up with a strong partner, perhaps the Premier League dream isn’t as far away as you might have thought.
