Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Leeds United defender Danny Mills has urged his former club to sign Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki – citing the fact he is a ‘proven‘ goalscorer in both the Championship and Premier League.
The Finnish international, who racked up a highly impressive 29 goals and nine assists in the Championship last campaign for the Canaries (WhoScored), becoming a real mainstay in their eventual promotion success, has continued that form in the top flight during an otherwise unimpressive return to the big time for his club.
Pukki has scored 11 Premier League goals this season, assisting three others, with Norwich currently sitting bottom of the pile. As a result, ex-Leeds star Mills has urged manager Marcelo Bielsa to snap up the 29-year-old should the Whites gain eventual promotion after the current coronavirus suspension.
“Pukki would be the obvious choice,” claimed Mills to Football Insider.
“It is where does he go and what sort of fee would he command. Does he want to leave Norwich? He is the obvious one.
“He is a goalscorer and he has proven he can do it. A good position and the way that Leeds play.
“But Bielsa is a funny one and a canny one at times. He could bring in somebody completely left-field. He may well use his contacts in South-America or Spain to bring in somebody.”
Woud Teemu Pukki be an upgrade for Leeds United?
Indeed, judging by Pukki’s impressive goal return at both levels, and with taking into account current striker Patrick Bamford’s lack of cover, it could well be worth the punt considering he is currently valued at around £9 million by Transfermarkt. However, given his impact, it’s not unreasonable to assume Norwich will look to profit much further off any potential interest for the striker’s signature, so any move would surely depend on their asking price.
