Darren Bent has admitted that he is confused at the fact that Jean-Kevin Augustin has not been in Leeds United’s plans more than he has since the striker joined the club in the January transfer window.
The Red Bull Leipzig loanee is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, however he has only been able to amass a paltry 48 minutes for Marcelo Bielsa’s side so far in three appearances, as the Argentine appears to prefer to remain with Patrick Bamford to spearhead the Whites’ attack.
Speaking with Football Insider, Bent admitted he found the whole situation a little strange and suggested Leeds could find themselves in a tricky situation should they win promotion – with it believed the Yorkshire outfit would be obliged to have to spend £18m to sign him permanently if they do go up, although the player would have the final say on a switch to Elland Road.
“The question marks were never about his ability, they were more attitude-wise. For whatever reason, he’s not really featuring. I don’t understand,” he said.
“For such a big player that everybody was raving about, why have we not really seen him yet? Again, it’s a difficult one, and it’s a tricky situation for Leeds to be in. At the time they needed another forward in, another body. At the same time, it’s a strange one.”
Indeed, it is rather easy to be on the same side of what Bent has said regarding the current situation Augustin currently finds himself in and one that is perhaps on the side of confusion.
The 22-year-old, who is valued at £10.8m by TransferMarkt, may have struggled this season for goals as he has found the back of the net just once in 16 appearances across all competitions for Leeds, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco but he has proven in the past he knows how to with 20 for the German outfit in 67 outings.
Perhaps Bielsa is just waiting for the right time to unless the forward in the Championship – should the season restart – or maybe the Argentine knows something everybody else does not but the fact that they got a striker in of his quality and have hardly turned to him does seem rather confusing.
