The Leeds United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Paul Heckingbottom can deliver success next season. Indeed, it’s been a difficult campaign for the punters propping up our bar thus far and attentions have turned toward next year already once again.
With that in mind, our resident Whites are already discussing potential summer transfer targets. To that end, they could do a lot worse than making an ambitious raid on Newcastle United for their talented young forward, Adam Armstrong. Indeed, the England U20 World Cup hero has been banging goals in left, right and centre since joining Blackburn Rovers back in January, notching seven goals thus far.
That came after a fairly ill-fated loan spell with Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers, though he’s also impressed at the likes of Coventry City during his early so far. During his time at the Ricoh Arena, former England and Chelsea star Joe Cole even compared his playing style to that of Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
At the moment, Armstrong is a long way from the Newcastle first-team, despite his obvious talent. The 21-year-old may have a long-term future at St. James’ Park, though a loan move to Leeds next season could really continue his development. Indeed, even an ambitious permanent bid with the option of a buy-back clause would be a great statement of intent as Heckingbottom – who coached the forward at Barnsley – starts afresh next season.
Armstrong and Leeds would be a good fit and the youngster would be able to light up the Elland Road faithful, so it’s certainly something the Yorkshire giants should consider.
