Samu Saiz fancies himself as a bit of a player in the attacking midfield role, and perhaps he’s justified in believing so. On paper, at least, anyway.
The Spaniard arrived in West Yorkshire in 2017 with some serious pedigree to his name, having represented both Madrid clubs at youth level, and evidence of his past playing continental football can be occasionally seen; small touches here and there, passes that take defenders out of the game, and spectacular runs.
Indeed, when things are going well, the Spaniard looks great. However, it’s not as if the 27-year-old is Lionel Messi and a criticism levelled against him is that he doesn’t do enough to change the game when things aren’t going well for his team.
In the game against Blackburn Rovers yesterday, however, it seems he forgot how to do any of these things competently; something Leeds fans have noticed and voiced their concerns over…

Sorry, but Saiz isn’t half as good as anyone actually thinks he is. Particularly himself #LUFC

Mate Alioski isn’t the problem don’t know if you were there today but Saiz is was terrible and has been for the last 4 games!

Home. That was hard to take. Our approach play was largely fine, but we were timid off the ball and defensively fragile. Saiz and Alioski were dreadful. All rather disconcerting. #lufc
