Leeds United: Fans take to Twitter to declare their love for cult hero Luciano Becchio

Leeds United cult hero Luciano Becchio is remembered fondly around Elland Road. He joined United from now-liquidated Spanish side Merida UD and many didn’t know what to expect, but what they got was a goalscorer who certainly excited the fans during his five years at the club.

He bagged 86 goals in 219 games for Leeds, and although that’s not the greatest strike-rate the club has seen, he was loved by the fans and his partnership with Jermaine Beckford was a memorable one. One of his personal highlights includes the equaliser he scored against Millwall in the League One play-offs in 2009. The goal didn’t mean anything in the end, but it nearly took the roof off Elland Road.

Leeds’ official Twitter account posted a video of the goal with a message from the man himself congratulating the club on its centenary year. The account asked fans to share their favourite from the goals he scored, and their love for Becchio filled the replies with reminiscent messages.
