Responding to archive footage courtesy of Twitter account Leeds Utd memories, plenty of Whites supporters have been discussing former ace Mick Jones on social media – with one supporter in utter disbelief that he ‘never won an England cap‘.
The centre-forward, who played 312 games for the club overall, scoring 111 goals in that time (leeds-fans.org.uk), also bagged the winning goal against Liverpool at Elland Road during the title-clinching 1968/1969 season – taking advantage of lapse defending to round the Reds ‘keeper and seal an important victory for United on the day. Now, with football’s temporary suspension until April 30th at the earliest date, supporters starved of match action have taken to social media and displayed their admiration for a club legend in response to the clip.
Do Leeds need to overhaul their squad for Premier League football?
Famously, Jones moved to Leeds from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, going on to better his Blades numbers over an eight-year-long stay.
Here’s how fans lauded their past hero on Twitter.
Thanks for posting. I have never seen this clip before. Mick Jones was very under rated, can’t believe he never won an England cap

Mick and Sniffer best forward pairing I’ve seen. Mick such an underrated player by seemingly everyone outside of Elland Road. Brilliant player.

Mick’s sudden acceleration just before he sidestepped The Flying Pig’s lunge, the difference maker right there. #LUFC
