Leeds United: Fans don’t want Gaetano Berardi to be handed a new deal

To say some Leeds United fans do not want to see Gaetano Berardi sign a new contract might be putting it lightly if some of their reactions on Twitter are anything to go by.
Is Marcelo Bielsa capable of taking Leeds United up?
Yes

No

According to a report by The Mirror, the Whites are believed to be open to the idea of extending the Swiss’ stay at Elland Road beyond the end of the current season, although they have left that decision in the defender’s hands.
It is said Berardi could look to leave the club on a Bosman instead as he has become a fringe player under Marcelo Bielsa – has made just 21 appearances under the Argentine during his tenure (per TransferMarkt).
Indeed, it would seem some of the supporters would like to see the 31-year-old not take the option of a new deal and look to move on, with many of them rather vocal on Twitter.
Some had believed it would be a ‘shocking’ deal for Leeds to give him a new contract, whilst others admitted they hoped the club would not go down that road. A few of them even had reservations about the length of a new potential deal, as they felt he should only get a year extra at best.
Here are just some of their reactions…
1 year at best but given recent deals it’ll probably be 4

Love Berardi but a new contract longer than a years extension would be a surprise.

I hope not. We can do better. Too much of a liability for my liking.

I’ve loved Berardi, but this would be a terrible idea. https://t.co/LGpbv2imc2
