Leeds United: Fans drool over Johnny Giles archive footage of screamer vs Crystal Palace

Reacting to sublime archive footage of Leeds United legend Johnny Giles, many Whites fans have been purring over their former midfielder during his hay day – describing him as ‘world-class‘ and hailing his footage as ‘hypnotic‘.
Giles, who played for Leeds over a decade-long spell from the mid-1960s to mid-1970s, transferring from arch-rivals Man United, has been at the centre of many reactions following the club account’s publication of archive footage.
Showcasing Giles at his best, the Irishman, back in 1971 during a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, took the ball under control from outside the penalty area, set himself and fired a looping shot off the post and into the top corner. Reacting to the ‘hypnotic‘ footage, many Whites supporters have been hailing the club legend on social media – with one fan, in particular, calling him ‘world-class‘.

He was world class. You’d need a very big cheque book to buy him in today’s market. The pass against Southampton was brilliant.

Giles’ shot curled wickedly late after looking like it would be high and wide. Been watching this for past 5 minutes. Hypnotic. #LUFC

Has there been a better two footed mid fielder?

Much has been written about the other lot getting Cantona but given how we got Giles and Strachan over the years, I think we’ve had the best deal. As someone else has said, what would Giles be worth now? He should also have succeeded Revie as manager.
