Leeds United: Fans flock to Phil Hay’s tweet about Championship restart

Phil Hay has shared an investigation by The Athletic on the concerns of people involved in football about the implications of restarting the season in a matter of weeks.
According to a report by some of the outlet’s top reporters, including the likes of David Ornstein and Laurie Whitwell, players and staff all across the country are scared and frustrated by the British government’s plans to bring the game back “as soon as possible.”
Earlier this week, the culture secretary Oliver Dowden unveiled a scheme to restore the sport dubbed ‘Project Restart,’ which involves clubs working around the clock with medical and scientific experts on finishing the English leagues behind closed doors, for the time being at least.
However, a number of unnamed sources have raised concerns about player welfare and public safety, whilst others pointed out the ramifications of boardrooms missing out on lucrative television deals.
Prior to the nationwide lockdown, Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites sat at the top of the Championship table, with a healthy seven-point-lead over the playoff places, and it is in Andrea Radrizzani’s best interests to see the league resume as quickly as possible in order for Bielsa’s side to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Naturally, loads of Leeds fans flocked to the journalist’s latest tweet, with one fan asking “why can they not finish this season” in January or February?

Exactly, they have to reorganise the season for the Qatar WC 22 in nov/dec this would give them the perfect window of opportunity to do this, don’t understand the rush to fit it in and start the next season, when it’s safe watch it’s safe to play 🤷♂️

At this point I wouldn’t mind them cancelling it if PPG determined the outcome, I’d just remember Huddersfield (H) as the promotion game. #LUFC pic.twitter.com/QXvZei4Xfj

Why are footballers more important than the public? We are slowly allowing non essential workplaces to make steps to bring their staff back. What happens if they refuse to work due to fears/worries? They end up without a job.

Phil, were the season to be voided, what would the likely implications be to Leeds and Bielsa specifically – do you think he’d stay? As business would still be unfinished.
