Plenty of Leeds United fans have been waxing lyrical about former boss Don Revie on Twitter after the club posted to mark the anniversary of his appointment as player-manager (@LUFC).
The Middlesbrough-born manager took over at Elland Road on 17th March 1961 and he went on to become an icon at the club after a period of sustained success. Indeed he won eight trophies in total whilst in charge of the West Yorkshire outfit, including two First Division titles, two UEFA Cups, one FA Cup and one League Cup (managerstats.co.uk).
He also famously feuded with Brian Clough, the man who went on to replace him in the dugout at Leeds when Revie eventually left in 1974 to become the manager of England (Yorkshire Post).
Naturally Revie is an icon amongst the Whites supporters for what he did at the club, winning 197 of the 396 matches he took charge of, giving him a 53.3% win ratio (managerstats.co.uk) which is slightly better than the 51.6% record boasted by current boss Marcelo Bielsa (The Sack Race).
Some fans responded to the tweet by the club by gushing over Revie, here is what they had to say…
Best Manager of all time
