Leeds United fans were in fits of laughter after the club appeared to take a swipe at tonight’s opponents Hull City.
The club’s official Twitter account posted a tweet ahead of tonight’s game claiming the Tigers were from Humberside.
It won’t have pleased fans from the East Yorkshire side after the area formerly known as ‘Humberside’ was abolished way back in 1996 (via BBC).
This means Leeds will be playing in their second Yorkshire derby in the space of four days, having previously beaten Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
Leeds won the game 2-0 thanks to a stunning volley from Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez’s header as they extended their lead in second place to eight points.
Fans found the tweet from their club quite hilarious as they took to Twitter to react, praising the Whites’ social media team for their banter towards the formerly Humberside team.
