Leeds United: Fans not happy with Jack Harrison despite positive statistics

Leeds United have made a strong start to the 2019/20 Championship season, and after 12 games they sit in second place (via BBC Sport).
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have done well to bounce back from the disappointment of losing in the play-offs last season (Telegraph), and look set to be promotion contenders once again.
One of their regulars in the starting 11 this season has been Jack Harrison, who is enjoying his second successive loan spell at Elland Road from Manchester City.
The winger has started all 12 of the Whites’ Championship fixtures so far, scoring one goal and providing two assists (via Transfermarkt).
Statistics have also emerged which show that Harrison has had more touches inside the opposition penalty area than any other player in the second tier this season with 69, and that he has created 11 goalscoring chances in their last four matches (@LUFCDATA).
That suggests that the 22-year-old is playing well, getting into good positions and creating opportunities to score. However, several Leeds fans believe that those stats are misleading and that he is not performing very well in an attacking sense, and have been particularly critical of his final ball.
Here is what some Whites fans had to say in reaction to reading the statistics about Harrison on Twitter…
The touches is because he takes 5 when a first time ball is needed and gets it caught under his feet. Defensively he does well, but these stats disguise how poor he usually is going forward.

Everything he does usually hits the first man – shooting, passing, crossing….great first touch though and shimmies like Elvis.

From the positions he gets into – he doesn’t do enough for me. Needs to improve with his final ball. Too much dilly dallying with no end product.

I’m sure he’s first in failed crosses and attempted passes in the final 3rd as well.

Does it not ring alarm bells that he’s had the most touches in opp box, yet only has a goal & 2 assists to his name all season? He has awful crossing stats (inc. drilled crosses when PB hangs far post??) & never looks like scoring. + that feint he does in our half then loses it.

I guess this proves that stats can be incredibly misleading.

If there’s improvement then great – there needs to be. But he also needs to start weighing in with goals.
